We head to the final tune up before Augusta, a place Corey Conners has won twice. TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) isn’t going to be one of the toughest challenges these players will face, but some things I’m valuing a little more this week are approach and ball striking metrics and I prefer good putters who are accurate, but it’s not a deal breaker.
But, given the above, it’s not a surprise Conners has won here twice. A typically reliable putter (at least doesn’t lose with his flat stick), good iron player, not flashy, and more times than not, a fairway finder.
Anyway, on to the trends:
Harman starting to find it, especially as a good putter, is really interesting at this course, especially with his price tag. DK Sports Book has him at 35/1 outright and that seems cheap. For DFS purposes, it’s going to come down to clicks which we don’t have access to at the time of this writing. I’m almost certain he’ll be in the player pool, so we’ll address that then.
Rickie has absolutely found whatever he’s looking for with the flat stick. That thing is heating up like crazy and his recent performances, he’s in the top tier of putters in the field and there are signs the rest of his game is starting to find it’s rhythm. He might be a case of be there early on him this week.
Noren continues to impress and putted very well last week in Houston.
Corey Conners on the top page of the trend table heading into his tournament. Ya gotta love it. I think he’ll probably be chalk from the course history bros, but I guess we’ll find out soon.
Higgo is someone worth monitoring.
Ryder is a ridiculously good putter. Keep him in the back of your mind.
Aaron Rai starting to come to life, as is Matt Fitzpatrick.
If the driver story about Fitzpatrick is true, in which they left an extra weight on it and forgot about it and that’s why he’s been all goofy, it will be among the dumbest things I have ever lost money on chasing him in so many spots.
Horschel is picking up steam and had another good tournament in Houston.
Chesson Hadley is a solid putter and looks like he’s starting to find some of his game again. I’m not confident he’ll make the player pool, but could be a reasonable value piece in DFS or the top 40 betting market.
I’m not really scared off by any of the names here, they’re all playing right about their base line.
McCarthy is a lethal putter and has decent to solid course histroy here.
Glover & Henley are solid course fits.
It starts to get hairy right about the Greyson Sigg-Rory McIlory range, or right after. Such a slick way for me to use Greyson & Rory in the same sentence and get away with it.
I want to know what’s wrong with Tom Kim. Will someone please save the sensation?
Not pictured: dead last - Ben Kohles. It’s ugly.
This is an ugly site for a couple of guys.
I am blown away that Fleetwood & Homa are so far down the list. Same with Morikawa.
We’ll have to see how the player pool and clicks shake out, but yeesh.
More to come later.
