RSM is kind of weird in the sense that they split the first two rounds on two courses. One has ShotLink, the other doesn’t, so I’m prepared to be otherworldly tilted out of my mind.
The Seaside Course has a lot of wind being right on the ocean and can make putting extremely difficult. Fairways are wide, but there are a lot of water hazards.
30 golfers this week, looking at overall games, excellent ball striking, strong putters and good off the tee games, highlighted by accuracy if we can do it.
All of the top names in the field being in the pool isn’t surprising. A lot of players reside in Georgia and this is an easy trek for them on a course they know. So I wouldn’t be too concerned with rust in some of these, guys, but it’s worth noting that guys like Henley, Harman and Conners haven’t played PGA competition golf in a little while.
At this point, you don’t need superlatives on Ludvig. If you can fit him, play him. It’s that simple.
I think Matti Schmid is a great play this week - he’s been extremely strong across the board, and his one area of deficiency recently is one of the easiest areas of attack on this golf course. He may garner extra clicks given his recent play, but I think it’s worthwhile.
Callum Tarren makes the list and is just shy of the top 25% in trend and needs another top 10 finish here at RSM to secure his spot in “the next ten” which gets him more guarantees for next year in terms of events.
Austin Smotherman is another golfer who needs a big week as he sits outside the 125 bubble. High trend rank, cheap price.
I really like Cam Champ this week. He’s been playing excellent golf of late, has two top 20’s and is in need of a big week due to the 125 bubble. Nobody is projecting to play him, either. If he can sustain his putting and not get in trouble off the tee, he could challenge.
Greyson Sigg is a sub $7K play I like. He’s been inconsistent in the fall, but does have two top 30’s under his belt and he has local ties to the course and area.
My only issue with Mark Hubbard is his putter. If you can stomach that, then he’s a great play.
The top names are the top names as I mentioned — you don’t need validation from me.
That’s it, good luck, get 6/6 through and we’ll see you when the next season picks back up again! It’s been a blast. Enjoy.
