The rough at the Canadian Open is terrifying. Canadians have lost their house pets and children in the thick rough lining the fairways of Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Our thoughts are with them as the search continues.
It might behoove you to go in on the field’s most accurate drivers of the golf ball, and especially those who have been excellent on approach of late. We’ve found some guys who fit the bill, and most of them won’t have much rostership in large-field GPPs this week.
Aaron Rai ($7,600): The two-gloved wonder has been deadly accurate (and short) off the tee this season. In fact, only seven guys in this week’s field have been more accurate than Rai over the past 20 rounds. Ranking 16th in this week’s Topher model, Rai ticks a lot of boxes for what should play well at Oakdale. Only 16 players have been better in ball striking over the past month. Rai is 16th in approach proximity too. That Rai finished 13th in last year’s Canadian Open doesn’t hurt either.
C.T. Pan ($7,100): Many are saying it’s Pan Szn. He is second in this week’s field in good drive percentage over the past 20 rounds. He’s 20th in driving accuracy. Pan fared well in this week’s Topher Model, netting the 20th best overall score thanks in part to his excellence off the tee. Will it be fun to play a guy who has made one cut over the past three months? No, it will not. Such is the life of a GPP player.
Doug Ghim ($7,200): Ghim, coming off two top-30 finishes, could draw some rostership this week. He probably won’t be chalk though. That’s good, because hardly anyone in the Canadian Open field has been more accurate off the tee than Ghim over the past month. He’s tenth in driving accuracy among players in this week’s field and his ball striking is trending in the right direction. Like Rai, Ghim has had success at Oakdale: In 2022, he finished 18th.
Cameron Champ ($7,200): The 25th ranked golfer in the player pool, 23rd by way of WD’s from Charley Hoffman & Joseph Bramlett, Cameron Champ has made three of his past four cuts and whose ball striking is on the upswing of late. Over the past 12 rounds, Champ is sixth in this week’s field in good drive percentage. He’s 18th in driving accuracy. Champ is strictly a large-field GPP hail mary kind of play -- one that will have next to no rostership as DFS players flock to similarly-priced guys with better track records.
Player Pool: RBC Canadian
We head north of the border this week to Oakdale Golf & Country Club. Our golfers will be tasked with a custom blended track using multiple holes from the courses that Oakdale provides. The RBC Canadian moves courses, so course history won’t come into play.
